The FeLV (feline leukemia virus) and FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus) status of all cats should be known. Up to 75% of certain breeds of dog (especially herding breeds) and up to 4% of all cats may carry a specific MDR-1 genetic mutation that puts them at risk for serious side effects of common medications. This non-invasive and cost-effective test screens for this mutation to ensure safe medication options are known for your dog or cat's lifetime.
Blood pressure measurement and screening blood & urine testing is recommended annually in dogs 7+ and cats 9+ years of age, and any pet regardless of age with a chronic condition or on long-term medications, to ensure they have normal organ function. Pets can appear healthy, but early or hidden disease can lurk - sometimes with no obvious symptoms. Early detection with screening lab work, along with timely intervention, can help us better treat and manage disease detected, if any.
Even if your pet appears to be healthy, regular vet visits are important.
